john was my step-dad. he ment the world to me .he was 50 when he passed away [10 yrs today] and he is missed so much,he was born and bred in featherstone and was a very popular guy.a few month before he passed away he started to complain of headaches he went to the optitions but they said everything was fine. the headaches carried on,he then started to complain his eyes were going blured and had problems seeing, i remember going out and buying him the biggest clock i could find for christmas so he could see the time. The weekend before dad died me and lez my husband set of to mum and dads as we did every sunday for tea only to be met by a neighbour and told dad had something wrong with him and he had been taken to pontefract hospital. we arrived to find mum saying dad was in a bad way but wasnt sure what was wrong with him. dad was then transferd to icu. and put on a life support machine. i rang my brothers one arrived with my sister-in-law. and my other brother was at the time stationed in winchester in the army.mum rang them and asked to speak to nicky and had to then get the hospital to speak to his commanding officer to confirm what had happened to dad. he was then allowed home on compationate leave. i remember us all sitting by dads bedside willing him to open his eyes.but he didnt a few days later tests were carried out and we got the worst news ever dad was brain dead.they turned his machine off a while later but we were all there for him he wasnt going to be on his own at a time like this.we held his hands as he gently slipped out of our lives.we were later told his death was due to a anurism at the back of his head apparentley 1 in 8 people are born with a week blood vessel like this and may never know.so please take this and remember if you know anybody suffering from headaches like this dont let it affect you the way it has done me and myfamily and loose someone you love dearly.
